3. SHORT STAT COURSES SCHEDULE FOR SUMMER 2014: STATISTICAL ANALYSIS IN R
Wednesday, Jun 25, 4:30-6:30pm. 1080 Torgersen Hall
Taught by Ian Crandell, this class is the second in a three-course series that assumes no previous coding experience in R or any other language. Experience using R or attending Part I of this series is suggested but not required. The intended audience includes researchers who want to gain basic exposure to statistical analysis in R with the ultimate goal of incorporating R into their research programs. R is a free computing and graphical software/environment for statistical analysis. This course is designed to provide a basic statistical analysis in R using two data sets. The first data set comes from a study of low birth weights and includes 189 observations and various prediction variables. Analyses described include t-tests (one-sample, two sample, paired tests), ANOVA, generalized linear regression (logistic regression), and nonparametric tests. The second data set summarizes binary responses and six continuous predictors. The course includes a lecture portion covering statistical concepts and a computer lab component that covers usage of R to perform the analyses described above. 6. GLC STUDENT BUILDING MANAGER POSITIONS OPEN FOR FALL 2014 – 1st posting
The GLC Student Building Manager works closely with the Operations Manager for Student Centers and Activities as well as the Graduate School to provide services to the patrons who use the GLC. This includes providing excellent customer service, overall building management, reserving rooms, oversight of the welcome center, basic cleaning (wiping tables, vacuuming, etc.) and administrative support. The Student Building Manager has primary responsibility, including emergency response, for the building during evening and weekend hours. The theatre production program in the School of Performing Arts is seeking two FT graduate assistants (20 hrs/wk, Step 1, 9-month) for the 2014/15 academic. The successful candidate must be available 1:00-5:30 pm M – F.
— Position #1 is in the scenic construction shop. Required skills: Carpentry, experience with power tools and equipment, finishing work, painting, installation and assembly. Ability to listen and learn from senior shop technicians; work both independently and with others; read and understand technical design drawings. Preferred qualifications include: Proficiency in standard scenic fabrication techniques including welding and rigging.
— Position #2 is in the costume construction shop. Required skills: Ability to read and understand costume designs and assemble patterns; basic experience with sewing and stitching; listen and learn from faculty and staff supervisors; work both independently and with others. Preferred qualifications include: Proficiency with fabric cutting, draping, patterning, fitting and costume crafts. The University Libraries are accepting applications for four Reference Library Assistant (RLA) positions for the 2014-2015 academic term. 11. PARENTS AND ADOLESCENTS WANTED FOR NUTRITION RESEARCH – 1st posting
Children 12-18 and parents are needed for a study to determine the reliability and validity of a biomarker for beverage consumption and added sugar intake in adolescents. The study involves children completing beverage and theory-based questionnaires, food recalls, and two non-invasive fingerstick blood samples across 5 sessions; parents will complete three questionnaires on first visit.
